NB-IoT is a low-power cellular technology designed for devices that send little data for years on one battery. It reaches basements, cold rooms and inner rooms better than ordinary mobile service, and does not depend on the customer's Wi-Fi: the logger is installed, switched on and starts reporting.
Every AKIoT logger carries its own data line, provided and managed by AKIoT. The customer handles no SIM cards, contracts or network settings.
The logger measures at one interval (every five minutes, for example) and transmits at a longer one (every hour, for example), sending all the readings it has gathered. That way the battery lasts longer without losing resolution.
If a reading crosses a threshold, the device does not wait: it transmits at once so that the alarm arrives in time. And if the network is unavailable for a while, the readings are kept in the device's memory and sent when coverage returns.
In installations with many measuring points close together, low-energy Bluetooth sensors report to a gateway that forwards the data over the cellular network. It is an option for rooms with several units or where a smaller sensor is better.
Not for the NB-IoT loggers: they use the cellular network, with the data line AKIoT provides. The Bluetooth gateway also connects over the cellular network.
Coverage is checked before installation. If the signal drops for a while, the logger keeps its readings and sends them when the signal returns.
It is set for each use case. A short measurement interval with hourly transmission is usual in the cold chain; a transmission is brought forward when a reading goes out of range.
